Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Deep Dasgupta was relieved after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got back amongst the runs in the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Sooryavanshi returned with scores of 50, 20 and 81 in the three games against Zimbabwe. The youngster scored a total of 151 runs in three matches at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 196.10 against the hosts.
The youngster had failed to get going in the T20I series against England, returning with scores of 13, 14, and 15 in the three games.
However, Sooryavanshi was at his absolute best against Zimbabwe and was also awarded Player of the Series for his consistent performances.
“Whatever pressure and the outside noise happened after his first few games, it will only help him. Also, this is just the start, this is going to be a very long journey, and we will see a lot of such innings from him. I was happy, and I was relieved, to an extent. He got runs in different ways, which was wonderful,” Deep Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.
Dasgupta praised Sooryavanshi for showing maturity in his innings in the third T20I against Zimbabwe. The former Bengal cricketer also recalled the IPL match when the youngster took a backseat after Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a brisk start.
“This is not the first time that I have seen him play like this. There was an innings in the IPL, where Yashasvi Jaiswal had got off to a strong start, and had scored a lot of boundaries, and on that occasion, Suryavanshi took a backseat. He was actually run-a-ball after 15 deliveries. To see if a player is ready or not for international cricket, I generally look at three things: firstly, and the most important is skill, second is temperament; and third is fitness,” Deep Dasgupta explained.
“So, as far as skill is concerned, we have already seen what he has. If you look at temperament, like this innings for example and all of the knockout matches he has played in, he has scored runs in all of them. Whether it be the U-19 World Cup, the IPL, or the tri-series with India ‘A’. So, that tells me that temperamentally, he is ready,” he concluded.
Sooryavanshi would look to carry the good form.
