Former Indian wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta reckons there weren’t many positives for Sunrisers Hyderabad after they were knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race. The Orange Army’s match against Delhi Capitals ended in no-result, eliminating the Pat Cummins’ team from the season on Monday.
SRH had finished as the runners-up in the previous season but failed to replicate the same performance in this season. They had got off to a rollicking start in IPL 2025 as their batting unit smashed 286 runs against Rajasthan Royals in their tournament’s opener, but they could not carry the same form.
So far, SRH has managed only three wins in 11 games with seven losses and one no-result.
“There aren’t too many positives. Abhishek Sharma’s season was slightly patchy, but he scored a century and a half-century. He has looked good in the last few matches. Along with him, Aniket Verma has scored a few runs in the middle,” Deep Dasgupta said on Star Sports show Match Point.
The former Bengal cricketer said the batting duo of Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen failed to deliver, whereas Mohammed Shami wasn’t up to the mark with the ball.
“So there haven’t been too many positives, even if you pick the big names, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen. In bowling, Mohammad Shami was slightly disappointing,” Dasgupta observed.
SRH once again adopted an ultra-aggressive approach but the renowned commentator reckons the franchise can refine their batting strategy depending on the match situation and pitch conditions.
“There is definitely one thing that they can work on, which is their approach. They can refine it a little more. The young talent they have will obviously have one more year of experience by the time the next season comes,” he said.
Dasgupta added that SRH will need to add more strength to their bowling line-up in the upcoming season.
“So they can put in more effort on their approach, and along with that, they will have to focus on their bowling as well. Obviously, it’s not a big auction, but there will be a mini-auction for sure. Send your scouts, and they will definitely get a chance to fill up the holes a little,” Dasgupta observed.
SRH will next face KKR at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday.
