India’s veteran Harbhajan Singh has backed Suryakumar Yadav to play all the matches in the upcoming World Cup. Yadav has shown glimpses of what he can do towards the fag end of the innings in the first two ODIs against Australia.
The right-hander, who has been under the pump for his recent ODI form, scored 50 runs off 49 balls in the opening game at Mohali. SKY continued his good show in the second ODI, smashing a blistering knock of 72 runs off just 37 balls with the help of six fours and as many sixes.
Yadav has shown the skills to turn the match on its head in T20I format and he can make a major difference if he gets going towards the end. The Turbanator called SKY as ace of spades and added the right-hander can single-handedly win the game for India.
“Surykaumar Yadav has to play all the matches. I don’t care whom he replaces, but his name should be taken first and then the rest. You have a player who is a pure match winner and can single-handedly make the game one-sided. He is the ace of spades. We have have been taking about a finisher…he is the one. He has to play at No. 5 for India,” Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube Channel.
Meanwhile, there is no doubt that there will be selection headaches for Rohit Sharma and Rohit Sharma when they will pick the team’s playing XI for the opening World Cup match against Australia.
Yadav has scored 659 runs in 29 ODI matches at an average of 28.65.
Shreyas Iyer also scored a fine knock of 105 runs in the second ODI whereas Ishan Kishan scored 82 runs against Pakistan in the Asia Cup when the chips were down. Kishan provides a left-handed option and he could be preferred ahead of Iyer and Yadav at number five.
The third ODI of the series will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on Wednesday.
