ENG vs IND 2021: Winning a Test series in England is not a milestone for me personally, says Virat Kohli

India’s Test captain Virat Kohli has downplayed the hullabaloo around the upcoming Test series between India and England.

Kohli stated that winning against England will be great for Indian cricket but he personally never chases milestones and records. India had last won in England in 2007 when Rahul Dravid led the team to 1-0 win in three-match series.

Kohli added that he wants his team to give more than 100% when they take the field. The Indian skipper opined that he wants his team to have the hunger to win in any situation. The talisman batsman added that he pushes his team to always go for the win and not think about saving or losing the Test match.

Kohli is known to give his 120% on the field and it has also rubbed on the shoulders of the rest of the players. The Indian skipper likes to take the bull by its horns and there are no double thoughts in his mind when he takes the field. Kohli went on to add that he might not have achieved so much in his career had he thought about the milestones.

Kohli said while talking to Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports, “For me personally, it means nothing more than winning a Test match or a Test series anywhere else in the world. For me these things are not anecdotes or milestones in my career. We step on the field and we compete to win every Test match, that’s what matters to me. For Indian cricket it will be a huge thing. But for me it is the culture that is dear to me.”

The Indian skipper added that it will take relentless madness to win a Test series in England. Kohli stated that the team has to be ready to play in the difficult conditions and bring their best in every session they play in the long Test series of five matches.

“It takes relentless madness and pursuit of excellence everyday over a five Test series to tell yourself that I want to do the hard work and I want to get into situations which are tough into every Test match everyday. You gotta be ready for that kind of workload and mental load,” Virat Kohli signed off.

The first Test between England and India will be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham from August 4th.
