Former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar has opined that Test cricket seems very easy for Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian skipper first smashed an unbeaten knock of 31 runs off just 16 balls and took on the attack against Stuart Broad. The right-hander took 35 runs against the lanky fast bowler and created a new world record.
Subsequently, Bumrah took three wickets in the first innings against England and played a key role in skidding the opposition at 84-5. Bumrah first rattled Alex Lees’ stumps before the rain break on the second day’s play. The gun fast bowler then dismissed Zak Crawley as he was able to induce an outside edge.
Bumrah also got the better of Ollie Pope and had figures of 3-35 at the end of the second day’s play. Thus, Bumrah is leading from the front in his first Test match as the leader of the team.
“Bumrah and Shami’s partnership in the Lord’s Test in the same series helped India win the match. Today Stuart Broad wasn’t great and Jasprit Bumrah cashed in. Test cricket at the moment seems very easy,” Ajit Agarkar said while speaking on Sony Liv.
Agarkar reckons that Bumrah is ticking the right boxes as a leader as he is delivering with both bat and ball. Former Indian pacer believes Bumrah bowled at the right pace and also bowled the right line and length against the hosts.
“Bowl well, get heaps of wickets, get runs, become captain, and put India in a terrific position. But I think it’s his bowling. He just bowled at the right speed. His line and length were immaculate as always,” Ajit Agarkar added.
India is in a dominating position as England finished day two at 84-5 and the home team trails by 332 runs. A lot of credit for India’s strong position goes to Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah as they have been the top performers so far.
India will look to continue their dominance in the remaining three days of the Test matches. The visitors currently have a 2-1 lead in the series.
