Reigning Super Cup champions FC Goa have continued their tradition of investing in emerging Indian talent by securing the signing of Spanish-returned defender Rudra Ved Moola ahead of the 2026-27 domestic season. The move is understood to be subject to a successful medical assessment.
With the Durand Cup 2026 less than a month away, FC Goa have moved quickly to reinforce their backline as they prepare for a demanding campaign that includes both domestic competitions and continental football. The Gaurs are also set to face Turkmenistan champions FK Arkadag away from home in a bid to secure back-to-back AFC Champions League Two group stage appearances.
FC Goa have earned a reputation for identifying and developing promising footballers rather than relying on expensive established stars. The club has previously unearthed talents such as Liston Colaco and brought Ishan Pandita back to India after his spell in Spain, reflecting a long-term approach to squad building.
Rudra’s football journey began at the JSW Bengaluru FC Youth Academy, where he joined at the age of 13 and developed his defensive foundation. At 18, he earned an opportunity to move to Spain through the Spanish Pro Football Academy, beginning a European stint that helped shape his game.
The Karnataka-born defender first featured for Atletico Saguntino’s Under-19 side, making his official debut against La Creu CF. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, he established himself as a commanding presence with his physicality and athleticism before progressing to Mare Nostrum CF, where he made the transition from youth football to the senior game.
His development continued with Club Deportivo Acero in the Tercera RFEF, Spain’s fifth tier, where he further strengthened his reputation in competitive football. After several years overseas, Rudra returned to India with South United FC, making 16 appearances, accumulating 1,300 minutes while contributing one goal and one assist.
Ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, he joined Shillong Lajong and enjoyed an impressive season. The centre-back played nearly 1,900 minutes, helping his side register 13 clean sheets as the Meghalaya club emerged as serious contenders for the Indian Football League title.
Rudra’s arrival is expected to suit FC Goa’s possession-based playing style. His ability to defend large spaces and provide physical dominance at the back could prove valuable in a system that relies heavily on attacking full-backs. With reports linking veteran defender Sandesh Jhingan with a possible exit following Manolo Marquez’s departure, the new signing may have an important role to play as FC Goa prepare for another challenging season.
