India’s veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has urged selectors and team management to back Suryakumar Yadav.
Karthik wants the team’s think tank to give a longer run to Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order and he believes the right-hander can do wonders for the national team.
Suryakumar finally received his chance in the final ODI against South Africa and he scored a free-flowing knock of 39 runs. The right-hander was able to hit the ground running and looked at ease against the South African bowling attack.
However, he would have been slightly disappointed as he was not able to convert his start into a substantial score. Yadav had a good chance to take India over the line but he had a soft dismissal.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has shown the right skills and has a lot of domestic experience under his belt. The right-hander has been a consistent performer for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and has played a key role in the success of the franchise.
“Suryakumar Yadav is batting on a different planet altogether; the kind of shots, the kind of positions, and the execution put together. He made batting look way easier than it was in that situation. Give him the long run, I’m sure he will do wonders for India. But, he needs a long run. Now, every time he comes out, he is under pressure from the players above and below him. It is very hard to set fields for him,” Dinesh Karthik said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
“SKY will play at the same tempo in any position. For Mumbai Indians also, he plays in a similar way coming in at No.3. You will get a good amount of runs if you play him at No.4 or 5, but I will bat him at No.5 or 6 in ODI cricket because he turns around games in quick time on a consistent basis.”
On the other hand, it has been noticed in the recent past that India’s middle order hasn’t been able to deliver the goods. India’s middle order led the team down in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa and Suryakumar Yadav can definitely put paid to India’s woes.
India will next face West Indies in a limited-overs format.
