Indian batter Hanuma Vihari has shed light on Jasprit Bumrah’s return for the ODI series against England. Bumrah’s last ODI appearance came back in 2023 when he played the World Cup final against Australia at Ahmedabad.
Since then, Bumrah has featured in important matches for India to manage his workload. The fast bowler looked toothless in IPL 2026 as he managed only four wickets for Mumbai Indians.
Bumrah was then rested for the series against Afghanistan and also the T20I series against Ireland and England.
“Normally, Bumrah plays only main matches like the World Cup or the Champions trophy then why did he return to the side? It is because this is the road to the 2027 World Cup. That is why India will try to play a full-strength team in ODIs. They will want to make a comeback after a disappointing T20I series,” Hanuma Vihari said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Vihari said Bumrah’s return is a delight for any captain and Shubman Gill would look to make the most of his services. The Indian cricketer added that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s arrival also boosts India’s batting.
“It will not be easy for England to beat India in ODIs because the big guns are back. They know how to play in these conditions. Rohit and Virat’s arrival strengthens the batting. Bumrah’s return is also a delight for any captain. He will be back with full fitness and will be all guns firing,” he said.
Bumrah has all the experience under his belt, and he has scalped 149 wickets in his ODI career of 89 matches.
The first ODI between England and India will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday.
