Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh showered praise on Delhi Capitals’ batter Sameer Rizvi after they defeated Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow on Wednesday. Rizvi, who played as an Impact Player, scored a match-winning knock of 70 runs off 47 balls in the run-chase of 142.
DC found themselves stuttering at 26-4 however Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs were able to steady the ship. The pair added 119 runs off 76 balls to take their team over the line with Stubbs contributing an unbeaten 39 off 32 balls.
Rizvi showed a lot of maturity in his game when his team was under the cosh in the run-chase.
Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube Channel, “Sameer Rizvi is a very good player. Even in domestic cricket, especially in the UP league, he scores heavily. In the last match of the previous season (IPL 2025), he also made 50 runs. And today, even though he didn’t score much in his first 10 balls, he later played a brilliant knock of 70 off 47 balls, hitting four to five boundaries. Outstanding performance, well done Sameer Rizvi.”
The Turbanator highlighted that CSK didn’t give enough chances to Rizvi to prove his mettle.
He added, “He was earlier with CSK, who bought him for ₹8 crore, but didn’t give him many chances. Then Delhi picked him, backed him, and continued to support him consistently. Players need that kind of backing to grow, and that’s exactly what helped him. So once again, well done, Sameer Rizvi.”
The former Punjab spinner praised Tristan Stubbs for delivering under pressure. Singh said Stubbs is a complete cricketer with solid technique.
He concluded, “When Delhi were four wickets down for 26, it really felt like the game was slipping away from them. But he turned things around and took Delhi to victory. Along with him, Stubbs also played very well, scoring 39 off 32 balls with proper cricketing shots. He looks like a complete cricketer with solid technique, capable of playing both fast bowling and spin well. Because of that, they chased the target quite comfortably.”
Delhi Capitals will next take on Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Saturday.
