Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has quashed any doubts regarding Virat Kohli’s fitness ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia. Kohli was named in the ODI squad as the selectors shut down any concern regarding his future in the 50-over format.
But chief selector Ajit Agarkar remained non-committal on Kohli’s future for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Kohli has aggregated 14,181 runs in 302 ODI games at a stunning average of 57.88 and thus he has a fantastic record.
Kohli, 36, is still fit as a fiddle and many experts had questioned his decision to retire from Test cricket.
Harbhajan Singh said on India Today, “Please, don’t ask any questions about his (Virat Kohli) fitness. When it comes to fitness, he’s a fitness guru. Everyone follows what he does. Virat Kohli—there’s no concern about his fitness. He’s fit, probably fitter than many who have played alongside him. In present international cricket, he’s probably the fittest guy. That part is over.”
The Turbanator said he is looking forward to watching Kohli in action in the Indian colors after a long break.
He said, “I am looking forward to seeing Virat Kohli back in action because fans haven’t seen him play recently, and personally, I would like to see him playing this format a little longer because he still has it in him. When he retired from Test cricket, I thought he still had about four or five years left—not just to play, but to dominate in Test cricket. He’s that kind of batter. I’m looking forward to seeing him bat, and he’s going to Australia.”
Kohli has scored 1327 runs in 24 ODIs in Australia at an impressive average of 51.03, including five centuries.
The veteran batter will be seen in action against Australia in the upcoming three-match ODI series, starting October 19.
