Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh slammed Lucknow Super Giants’ batting after they suffered a six-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals at Lucknow on Wednesday. After they were put into bat by Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel, LSG was bowled out for 141.
Mitchell Marsh and Abdul Samad scored 35 and 36 runs respectively but none of the other LSG batters could show much resistance. The home team kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could not get any impetus into their innings.
Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan bagged three wickets apiece to put LSG under the cosh. Furthermore, Kuldeep Yadav took wickets in his four overs.
Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube Channel, “Delhi Capitals really stamped their authority and went to Lucknow’s home ground to absolutely thrash them. And yes, this is what you properly call a thrashing because the kind of cricket LSG played, they just couldn’t do anything. It was basically a case of big names, but little impact.”
The Turbanator reckons LSG need to work hard on their batting for the upcoming matches.
“The batting definitely needs a lot of work. You can’t score runs just by slogging. Play according to the format. Somewhere, when they see scores of 200, they start thinking that matches in this format can only be won by scoring 200. That’s not true. There are plenty of games won with 160, 170, or 180.”
The former Punjab spinner highlighted that no LSG batter played according to the match situation against DC.
He concluded, “You have to give yourself a chance. If the conditions are a bit tough, then play through them. Right now, it feels like everyone is just trying to play the format, but no one is playing according to the situation. When Pooran got out, I felt that if he had paced his innings and stayed till the end, the total wouldn’t have been 141. It could have been around 180, and then it would have been a completely different game.”
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on Sunday.
