Reigning champions Gujawrat Titans have started with two wins in their first two matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. They cruised past Delhi Capitals registering a six-wicket win. Young batter Sai Sudarshan was the star of the night for the Titans as he smashed his maiden IPL fifty and steered them home.
After the match, Titans captain Hardik Pandya was very impressed with the youngster who showed great character to finish off the chase. Pandya hailed his hard work and believes that he will do big things in franchise cricket and eventually for Indian cricket aswell.
“He is been batting terrifically. Credit to the support staff and to him as well. The amount of batting he’s done in the last 15 days, all the result you see is all his hard work. Going forward, if I’m not wrong, in two years, he’ll do something great for franchise cricket and eventually for India cricket as well.”
It seems like whenever there is trouble in paradise for the Titans, someone puts their hand up and wins them the game. Last match against Chennai Super Kings, it was Rashid Khan who changed the course of the game with the bat.
Whereas, this game saw Sai Sudarshan bat with great intent and eventually helped his team win the game. Speaking after the win. The 21-year-old shared that the idea was to take the game deep. He highlighted that he was under no pressure as such but due to the low and skidding conditions he was extra careful with his shots.
“I was thinking about what has to be done right. I wasn’t under pressure. I was just calculating the right things. It was a bit low and skidding through, I was thinking to take the right options. My plan was to take the game deep and taking it through,” Sudarshan shared.
“Weathering the storm early on (was satisfying). It was quite difficult, it was seaming initially that was the highlight for me,” the ‘Man of the Match’ concluded.
It was the second win for the Gujarat Titans in as many matches as they look like contenders yet again. They chased down Delhi Capitals’ target of 163 with 11 balls to spare. It is a clear statement from the Titans that they are here to dominate matches once again and defend their crown.
Earlier in the match, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph made the in rows which rattled the hosts at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Inside nine overs the Capitals were 67/4 and it was only after Axar Patel’s fighting 36 runs that they manage to put up a respectable total on board. But Sudarshan’s knock of 62 runs coupled with cameos from Vijay Shankar and David Miller meant that the score was never going to be enough for the hosts.
