He should have a right to know why he has been removed: Amit Mishra on Virat Kohli’s sacking

India’s veteran spinner Amit Mishra has opined that Virat Kohli has the right to know why he has been removed as the ODI captain.

Kohli was sacked as ODI captain by the national selectors even though he wanted to continue as the leader.

The selectors felt that it won’t have made much sense to have two white-ball captains and thus appointed Rohit Sharma as the new ODI skipper.

Kohli revealed he was told 90 minutes before India’s Test squad selection for South Africa that he won’t be the ODI captain anymore.

On the other hand, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had stated that Virat Kohli was told to reconsider his T20 captaincy decision but Kohli revealed he was not communicated, and his decision to step down as T20 captain was taken in a positive manner.

Thus, a controversy has been created after Virat Kohli’s press conference on Wednesday.

Speaking to ANI, Mishra said: “This is not the first time it has happened. It happened before also and I feel that a player who has performed so much for the country and worked so hard should have a right to know why he has been removed from the team or from a particular position. A player should know where he is lacking and should improve on that aspect.”

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that there has been some rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, Kohli has once again cleared that there is no rift between him and Rohit. Amit Mishra also revealed that these reports are not true.

“These things are not true. Both the players have such a positive approach towards life. They have good communication even when they are on-field. They always give their 100 percent for the team. I think Virat has done a great job as a captain and now it’s Rohit’s turn to showcase his game and prove himself to be a great player and a captain.”

On the other hand, Kohli had a fantastic record as an ODI captain as he led India to 65 wins in 95 matches as the team lost on 27 occasions. Thus, he had a winning percentage of 70.43. Furthermore, Kohli also delivered the goods as a batter as he scored 5449 runs in those 95 matches at an impressive average of 72.65.

The first Test match between South Africa and India will be played at Centurion from December 26.
