Indian captain Rohit Sharma has opened up on his captaincy style. Rohit recently led India to glory in the T20 World Cup as the Men in Blue became the first team to remain unbeaten throughout the tournament.
Rohit said he treats his players like family, like brothers to get the best out of them. The Indian skipper was spot on as leader in the T20I showpiece and got the job done for the team.
Rohit Sharma also led from the front as he scored 257 runs in eight matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.71. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma finished his T20I career as the leading run-getter in the format, with 4231 runs in 159 matches.
Rohit has all the captaincy experience and also led Mumbai Indians to five titles in the IPL. Furthermore, Rohit shares a great bonhomie with his players.
Rohit said in an interview with Aldar Experts Podcast, “For a leader, I think it’s important try and lead from the front, set an example for rest of your colleagues, your teammates. And for me it’s always been important that I’ve always carried myself in a way where I try and set an example for my colleagues.”
“It is just not about what you do on the field, it is also about what you do off the field as well. I treat them like family, like friends, because as much as you’re part of this team, they share the equal responsibility and equal share in the team to be part of that team. So you got to make them feel homely, you have got to make them feel that you’re wanted here,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rohit decided to hang his boots from T20Is after leading the team to glory. However, Rohit confirmed that he will continue playing for a while in ODIs and Test cricket.
“I just said it. I don’t do that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play for a while.”
India will next tour Sri Lanka for three T20Is and as many ODIs.
