Indian skipper Rohit Sharma wants to get into the phase he was in before the 2019 World Cup ahead of the upcoming ODI showpiece. Rohit Sharma had top-scored in the previous World Cup with 648 runs in nine matches at an average of 81 and had a strike rate of more than 98.
The right-hander had scored five centuries in English conditions and had played a key role in taking his team to the semifinal stages. Rohit has amassed 9837 runs in 244 ODI matches at an average of 48.7, including 30 centuries. Ergo, he has all the experience under his belt and he is going to hold the key at the top of the order along with Shubman Gill in the major event.
In the 16 matches of 2023, Rohit has scored 923 runs at an average of 48.57 across all three formats of the game and he will look to continue the good show in the upcoming World Cup.
“For me, it is important how I keep myself relaxed and not worry about external factors that play a role, whether positively or not negatively. I want to shut out everything. I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup,” Rohit was quoted as saying to PTI.
“I was in a great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament. I was in good shape, a good mindset. I want to bring that back and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what were the right things that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person. I want to revisit that thought process of mine personally,” he added.
Rohit Sharma will look to lead from the front in the upcoming ODI World Cup and he will aim to be at his best in the Asia Cup.
India will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on October 8.
