Former Indian cricketer and analyst Aakash Chopra has said something which is very interesting. Chopra believe that if players from the Indian cricket team wants to take rest then they should be rested during the Indian Premier League or during T20 International and not from ODIs as the World Cup is around the corner and with their disappointing performances in the last two World Cup, the Indian team will be eager to prove their point point in this World Cup which will also be at home.
The Indian team have already lost the ODI series to Bangladesh having lost both the matches. But they will face a third ODI in Chattogram on 10th December as a mere formality but it will also be a chance for both the teams to try out a few players.
In his Youtube channel, Chopra shared how too many players taking rest frequently is a reason for the Indian cricket team’s recent struggles. He shared how the players must take rest during the IPL or T20Is but not during ODIs as this is the World Cup year and every single game is important.
“The first thing I understand is that too much rest is happening. In the last one to one-and-a-half years, too many players have taken a lot of rest many times. If you want rest take it in the IPL or T20I cricket but not in ODI cricket because this is the World Cup year,” Chopra explained.
He then shared how playing together creates a connection and it helps going forward. But if players are not playing together frequently then they wont feel that connection and hence the team looks very unprepared. “If you don’t play cricket together continuously, there is a question if you are able to prepare properly. This is not only with us, it happens with everyone. If you look at Australia, they said there was tiredness ahead of the World Cup, so they won’t play the full team, they couldn’t even qualify for the semi-finals,” he added.
Lastly he adds how Indian should be playing full strength team in the upcoming One Day Internationals heading to the World Cup next year. He feels that playing together will help the team in regaining that rhythm that is needed to bag the World Cup next year.
