India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is looking forward to performing well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the IPL 2023 in order to make a return to the Indian team. The Tamil Nadu spinner had played for India in the T20 World Cup 2021 but could not impress with his performances.
Chakravarthy could only take a solitary wicket in the three matches he played against Pakistan, New Zealand, and Scotland and conceded 71 runs. Furthermore, he didn’t have a great run in IPL 2022 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders as he could only take six wickets in the 11 matches he played and conceded his runs at an economy rate of 8.51.
The 31-year-old is confident that he will make a solid comeback and he is looking forward to proving his mettle in the upcoming matches for Tamil Nadu.
“The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is a very important platform for me. I’m sure that I’ll knock the doors down again because I’ve worked hard. Let’s see, if God is kind enough, I’ll get the chance again. Yeah, exactly. I do know SMAT is going to play an important role, as well as the next IPL. In these two tournaments, if I do well, I’ll get the chance again,” said Chakravarthy while speaking to Sportskeeda.
Meanwhile, earlier there were question marks on Chakravarthy’s fitness but he has vowed to make a solid return both physically and mentally.
“You can expect a better player both physically and mentally. I’m definitely looking to play for the country. I’ll definitely make a good comeback.” said Chakravarthy.
The last couple of years hasn’t been ideal for Varun and he revealed he has the support of his family as they have kept him going in the tough times.
He added, “My family, my wife, and everyone else – they always have my back. I talk to them whenever I’m low. It’s bound to happen, and that’s the nature of this game. In India, it’s bound to happen because of the amount of competition. Someone is going to push someone else, and that’s just the way it is. It’s better to accept it instead of trying to fight it.”
Tamil Nadu will begin their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign against Chhattisgarh on 11th October in Lucknow.
