Sharjah Warriorz leg-spinner Adam Zampa was delighted to contribute to the team’s success after his side registered a four-wicket win against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah in the ongoing ILT20 2025 on Thursday.
After Warriorz captain Tim Southee decided to field first, the hosts were able to restrict the visitors at 161-8. Kyle Mayers top scored with 56 runs but the other batters could not contribute much.
Zampa continued his good form, returning with impressive figures of 3-27 in his quota of four overs. The leg-spinner accounted for top-scorer Kyle Mayers, Andre Russell, and Roston Chase in his fine spell.
The Australian said after bagging the Player of the Match, “Just trying to do my role which is to try and get important wickets, glad to be contributing. We had some good batters and Sharjah is definitely not big enough for them. I was actually under the pump after the first 11 balls, and then we spoke about the match-up and glad to have pulled it back.”
Meanwhile, Johnson Charles scored a match-winning knock of 65 runs for the Warriorz whereas Tom Kohler-Cadmore scored 39 runs. Warriorz captain Tim Southee was delighted to bag a win at the crucial junction of the tournament.
Southee said after the win, “We got off to a good start. The way the guys have been playing in the last couple of games, we were in control for majority of the chase. Nice to be picking up a win at right time of the tournament.”
On the other hand, ADKR captain Sunil Narine felt his team could have come up with a better batting show.
He said after the loss, “We could have finished it off (with the bat) a bit better, and after the powerplay we lost our way a little bit. Everyone is doing a good job, and we knew what we had to do in the next 3 games and there is plenty to play for.”
The Warriorz will next take on MI Emirates at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
