Gulf Giants captain James Vince was delighted after a six-wicket win against Sharjah Warriorz at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah in the ongoing International League T20 on Sunday. The Warriorz posted a fighting score of 176 runs on the board after Vince decided to bowl first after winning the toss.
Jason Roy top-scored with 44 runs off 30 balls whereas Blessing Muzarabani was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with figures of 3-32 in his quota of four overs.
Meanwhile, Gulf Giants’ opener Tom Alsop scored a match-winning knock of 85 runs off just 60 balls. GG needed 58 off the last five overs however the left-hander was able to get his team over the line.
James Vince said in the post-match presentation, “Was a big weekend for us to get back into the competition. Nice to get back in the mix. Last night when we brought the spinners on we felt conditions weren’t ideal for them. Felt it was the best option for the conditions (all-seam attack). Hopefully we’re building momentum at the right time.”
Alsop was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant innings for Gulf Giants.
He said after the game, “Nice to spend some time out there. Really nice wicket. Very different conditions last night. Today it was a case of assessing the conditions – was more batter-friendly. I think it was little margin for error.”
On the other hand, Sharjah Warriorz captain Tim Southee feels they were in the contest for the majority part but dew didn’t help them while defending a par score.
He said after the loss, “Were in it for a majority of the game. Was a pretty good score. Obviously dewed up a bit. Three games left, hopefully we can salvage something.”
