Sharjah Warriorz captain Tim Southee showered praise on the spinners after a convincing nine-wicket win against Dubai Capitals at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai in the ongoing ILT20 2025 on Tuesday.
After Southee decided to bowl first, Dubai Capitals were restricted to 131-9 in their 20 overs. Capitals openers – Rossington and Shai Hope added 60 runs off 42 balls for the opening alliance but the other batters struggled to get going in the middle overs.
Adam Zampa returned with impressive figures of 2-28 in his quota of four overs whereas Ashton Agar bowled an economical spell of 1-14 in his four overs. Rohan Mustafa registered figures of 2-12 in the three overs he bowled.
On the other hand, the Warriorz was able to chase down the target with 49 balls to spare. Andre Fletcher scored an attacking knock of 71 runs off 33 balls whereas Tom Kohler-Cadmore continued his good form as he scored an unbeaten 54.
Tim Southee said in the post-match presentation, “The spinners were outstanding, Rohan as well, he complemented the other two and stalled the momentum the Capitals had. The performance has improved and tonight was the best performance of the tournament. Never ideal to drop catches but it was not costly tonight. [on Charles] Unbelievable, we know how dangerous he can be when he comes off.”
Meanwhile, Adam Zampa was awarded Player of the Match for his fine spell and he was delighted to contribute to the team’s success.
The Australian said after the win, “They obviously got off to a flier, once I bowled my first over, there was spin. I love playing here in Dubai, there was skid as well. The other spinners complemented well and we were happy with 132 that’s for sure. The wicket we played today is a little bit bigger on the off-side and we used the width of the pitch.”
Speaking about playing with Ashton Agar, Zampa said, “Ashton and I played so much together, communication is easy with one another. We haven’t played a lot together recently, was nostalgic but we fed off each other well. We joked at the halfway mark, let’s sort out our NRR and Johnson and TKC sorted it out.”
Sharjah Warriorz will next take on Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah on Thursday.
