India’s rookie batter Yashasvi Jaiswal feels he can learn a lot after batting with Virat Kohli in the second T20I against Afghanistan at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Sunday. After India lost their skipper Rohit Sharma for a golden duck, Virat Kohli joined forces with Yashasvi Jaiswal while India was chasing 173 runs.
Jaiswal and Kohli both played with an aggressive approach and helped India score 69 runs in the Powerplay overs. The duo added 57 runs for the second wicket and helped the team stay on the right course to victory.
Meanwhile, Kohli was returning to the T20I setup after 14 months and had missed the opening game due to personal reasons. The talisman scored a quickfire knock of 29 runs off just 16 balls.
“It was nice going there and enjoying the game, especially when I batted with Virat bhaiya. It is an honour to bat with him and I can learn lots of things,” Jaiswal was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.
Jaiswal revealed that the plan was to hit straight down the ground and play positively in the first six overs.
“When we were batting, we had a small chat about where we could hit. Then we decided that it was easy to hit over long on and mid-off, and we tried to do that. The intent was positive and we tried to hit good shots,” he stated.
The youngster revealed he has been given the license by the team’s management to play aggressively at the top of the order.
“I have been told to go there and express myself and try to do what I do best. I keep working hard on my practice sessions so that whenever I get a chance, I try my best.”
On Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first, Yashasvi said, “It was a good decision to bat second as there was dew in the second half. I enjoyed the environment that we had in Indore.”
The third and last T20I of the series between India and Afghanistan will be played at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday.
