Former Indian batter Suresh Raina feels Virat Kohli should continue his attacking mindset in the T20I series against Afghanistan. Kohli missed the opening game of the series due to personal reasons however he will get back to action in the second game.
Kohli has scored 4008 runs in 115 T20I matches at an average of 52.74. Furthermore, he finished the ODI World Cup as the highest run-getter with 765 runs in 11 matches at an average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.32. Ergo, he was awarded Player of the tournament for his consistent performances.
Kohli was at his absolute best in the ODI showpiece and he would want to carry on the good show. The talisman has all the experience under his belt and he would want to make the most of it. Kohli also scored 172 runs in the two Test matches against South Africa and batted at the top of his game.
“He always has an attacking mindset, the way he controls the innings. 20 overs is a big format. People feel it is a very short format, but you still need to play 20 overs,” Raina said on JioCinema.
Raina hailed Virat Kohli for being the chase master in the T20I format as the veteran has consistently delivered in the second innings.
“India have won 17 of their last 19 matches while chasing when Kohli was there. When you chase, you do the calculations in your mind, and that’s why he is called a chase master,” Raina added.
Kohli will look to hit the ground running in his return to the T20I format and he will aim to get the job done for his team. The second T20I between India and Afghanistan will be played at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Sunday.
