Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was able to impress with his skills in the three-match T20I series against India, which concluded on Sunday with the hosts winning by 2-1. Green scored a fine knock of 52 runs off just 21 balls in the third T20I as he batted at the top of his game.
The lanky player had only played one T20I before the India series but he showed great promise while batting at the top of the order with captain Aaron Finch. Green had also scored a fine knock of 60 runs off just 31 balls in the first T20I, which Australia had won and he was awarded the Player of the match for his fine batting show.
The youngster top-scored in the series with a total of 118 runs in three matches at an average of 39.33 and a blistering strike rate of 214.55. Furthermore, Green conceded only 14 runs in the three overs he bowled in the third T20I. Australian captain Aaron Finch was all praise for the youngster and said he showed his class.
Aaron Finch said in the post-match presentation, “It was a really good series. We held our nerves well in the middle overs. The series Green had was big as well. We thought it was a decent total, it got a bit dewy, and we knew we had to get wickets. You can’t rely on containing India. At times we were a bit sloppy in our execution. To be able to play three games against a world-class side has been great for this side. [On Green] He is a super young player; he has shown his class. He has not played a lot of T20. He has taken it superbly.”
Green was the biggest positive for Australia in the three-match series and he is definitely a backup option for the team in the T20 World Cup squad.
Meanwhile, Green efforts with the bat went in vain as India won the third T20I by six wickets after Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav scored fine knocks for the team. Yadav and Kohli scored 69 and 63 runs respectively and the duo added 104 runs for the third wicket to help India get close to the target.
