Australia’s gun fast bowler Mitchell Starc has revealed he tries to attack the stumps and bring in all modes of dismissals. Starc played a key role in Australia’s massive 10-wicket victory against India in the second ODI at Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
The left-arm pacer got the ball to move back into the right-handers to breathe down the neck of the opposition’s batters. Starc plumbed Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul (LBW) while bringing the ball back into the stumps.
The veteran fast bowler also accounted for Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Shubman Gill. Starc returned with impressive figures of 5-53 in the eight overs he bowled and thus he was awarded the Player of the Match. The 33-year-old from Sydney played a big role in skittling out India at 117.
Furthermore, Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott also provided support to Starc as they snared two and three wickets respectively.
Mitchell Starc said in the post-match presentation, “I have learned the trade over the years. My rhythm has been good for a few weeks now. The last couple of nights, I got the ball to shape in the air and do a little bit off the wicket. Feeling in a good place, and hopefully, I can continue. It’s a role I play, being more attacking and bowling slightly fuller than some of the other guys.”
Starc admitted he could be a little expensive as he bowls fuller in order to get swing and take wickets for his team.
He added, “I can be slightly more expensive, but that brings in all the dismissals more, that’s the role I play. My conversations are a little different compared to someone like Cam Green. Both the decks have helped the seamers. There was movement in the air in Mumbai as well. My game plan is to attack the stumps and bring in all modes of dismissal into play.”
In fact, Starc was also right on the money in the first ODI at Wankhede as he had scalped three wickets. The deciding ODI between these two powerhouses will be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.
