England’s opening batsman Jason Roy has heaped praise on India’s greenhorn batsman Ishan Kishan, who made a fantastic start to his international career.
Roy stated that Kishan is a star player and it was not a surprise for England to see him tee off in the second T20I.
Kishan was playing his first-ever International match however he showed no signs of nervousness as he batted at the top of his game. The southpaw scored a boundary on the first ball he faced against Jofra Archer and didn’t look back.
The left-hander from Jharkhand was able to hit the ground running and grew in confidence during the innings as he timed the ball to perfection. Kishan had batted in a similar fashion in the IPL while playing for Mumbai Indians in the 2020 season and thus it was not a surprise for the visitors.
In IPL 2020, he had scored 516 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 57.33 and a blistering strike rate of 145.76.
Roy, who top-scored with 46 runs for England believes, feels he missed out on some scoring opportunities and couldn’t execute his skills the way he would have liked.
Jason Roy said in the pre-match press conference, “It was just execution on the night. I think a couple of times we might have got the things wrong with the ball; he capitalized by hitting them for six whereas when I was opening, I probably missed out on the balls that should have gone for boundaries. It is just about making sure you execute your skills really well.”
“Ishan Kishan is a star player; he has done that for Mumbai Indians in the IPL numerous times. I was not surprised when I saw him kind of teeing off a bit; everyone knows he is a star player. Good on him.”
Kishan was fearless in his batting approach and must have gained a lot of confidence after making a promising start to his international career. The 22-year-old youngster will look to continue the good show and keep delivering for the team.
Furthermore, Kishan added 94 runs with Virat Kohli and he must have learned a lot from the Indian captain. The third T20I will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad today.
