Former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels India misses Virat Kohli’s captaincy massively in Test cricket. Kohli took Indian cricket to new heights as Test captain and played a key role in the success of the team.
The talisman missed the opening Test match against England due to personal reasons and will be out of action for the second Test. Vaughan reckons India won’t have lost the first Test match if Virat Kohli had been the captain.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy came under scrutiny after India lost the opening game by 28 runs despite taking a huge lead of 190 runs in the opening Test at Hyderabad.
“They miss Virat Kohli’s captaincy massively in Test cricket. Under Virat’s captaincy that week, India wouldn’t have lost the game,” Vaughan said on Club Prairie Fire show.
“Rohit is a legend and a great player. But I felt he just switched off completely,” the former England batter added.
While writing for the Telegraph, Vaughan highlighted that Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was very average.
“I thought Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was very, very average. I thought he was so reactive; I don’t think he manoeuvred his field or was proactive with his bowling changes. And he didn’t have any answer to Ollie Pope’s sweeps or reverse sweeps,” Vaughan wrote.
Meanwhile, under Rohit Sharma’s captiancy, India won the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia and also drew series against South Africa by 1-1. Rohit took over the captaincy baton from Virat Kohli in 2021 and has done a decent job in all three forms.
Rohit will look to lead from the front in the second Test match against England and get the job done for the team.
The second Test match between India and England will be played at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam from 2nd February.
