India’s greenhorn batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was delighted to play an instrumental role in India’s 106-run win against England in the second Test match at Vishakhapatnam. The attacking left-hander scored a magnum opus knock of 209 runs in the first innings to help India post 396 runs on the board.
In fact, the next best score for India was 34 as Jaiswal scored more than half of the team’s runs in the first dig. The southpaw scored 19 fours and seven sixes in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game.
Jaiswal, 22, became the third youngest Indian batter to score a Test double century after Sunil Gavaskar and Vinod Kambli. The left-hander had also scored 80 runs in the first innings of the opening Test match at Hyderabad and he was able to continue the good show at Vizag.
Jaiswal said after the game while talking to the host broadcasters, “Wonderful feeling, really enjoyed the game. One of the best moments to win a game for your country. We were just focusing on our process, focused on our fielding and I think it went well. (On pitch) There was a bit of crack and there was some seam movement, so it was a bit hard to play in the fourth innings.”
Speaking on the difference between the white ball and the red ball, he said, “It is very different, in these games, I try to play till the end, and in white game, I go for it from the first ball and have an intent to score.”
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah bagged the Player of the Match award after bagging nine wickets in the game.
Lauding India’s pack leader, Jaiswal said, “The way Bumrah bowled was incredible, it was coming too fast at the slip cordon too.”
On his second innings batting approach, the youngster concluded, “My intent was the same, I wanted to play out the new ball and build my innings.”
The third Test match between India and England will be played at Rajkot from 15th February onwards.
