Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said they would continue batting aggressively after a thrilling two-wicket win against England in the second T20I at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Saturday. India was able to restrict England to 165 after SKY won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy bagged two wickets each whereas Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Washington Sundar took one wicket each.
On the other hand, India kept losing wickets at regular intervals and found themselves on the ropes at 78-5 after 9.1 overs. However, Tilak Varma scored an unbeaten knock of 72 runs off just 55 balls to help India register a nail-biting win. The southpaw smashed four fours and five maximums in his match-winning knock and he was the lone warrior for the side.
Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-match presentation, “A little bit of relief with the way the game was going. We felt 160 was good. They bowled really well, good that that the game went down to the wire. We’ve been playing with an extra batter since the last 2-3 series. We want that cushion and also that batter gives us 2-3 overs in the game. The chat around was to play as we played the last game. We are playing an aggressive brand of cricket, but at the same time, as the situation demanded, boys actually put their hands up and stitched those small partnerships.”
Showering praise on Tilak Varma for his fine innings, SKY said, “Very happy with the way Tilak batted, good to see someone like him taking responsibility.”
Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi also scored a crucial knock of nine runs off five balls with the help of two boundaries and Yadav revealed that the former has been working on his batting.
SKY added, “He’s been putting in a lot of hard work in the nets, he wants to contribute with the bat as well, it’s a perfect example that he did it today and not to forget Arshdeep Singh as well.”
The third T20I between India and England will be played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot on Tuesday.
