Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has compared the series win against England with Australia tour in 2021. Gavaskar lauded the courage, stamina, grit and determination of the young Indian players in both series.
India took an impregnable lead of 3-1 in the series against England after winning the fourth Test at Ranchi by five wickets. On the other hand, India defeated Australia by 2-1 in 2021 despite having a young team with players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami missing the action.
India was bundled out for 36 runs in the opening Test match at Adelaide but the visitors were able to bounce back in style as they registered historic wins at Melbourne and Brisbane. Ajinkya Rahane was able to lead from the front and the young players were able to grab their opportunity.
Similarly, the likes of Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Akash Deep have grabbed their chances with both hands in the ongoing series against England.
“The courage, stamina, grit and determination that the young Indian players showed during that Australia tour was visible even this time around against England,” Gavaskar told SportsTak.
“India missed a lot of big names in Australia, but they still managed to pull off a fantastic win not just in Gabba but also in Melbourne. They came back after being bowled out for 36. Winning in Melbourne then they battled hard to save the Sydney Test match…” Gavaskar added.
India has ticked the right boxes against England just like they did against Australia in 2021. The hosts have played better in crunch situations of the series and thus they are in the driving seat.
The fifth and final Test match will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala from March 7.
