IND vs NZ 2022: In T20 cricket, there is no slip – Wasim Jaffer on Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissals

Former Indian domestic giant Wasim Jaffer has shed light on Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissals in the ODI series against New Zealand. Yadav was dismissed after scoring four runs before Lockie Ferguson produced the outside edge.

Yadav was dismissed after scoring six runs in the third ODI at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Wednesday. Once again, Yadav was dismissed by Adam Milne and he was caught at slip.

The right-hander was dismissed while poking at the off-stump deliveries on both occasions. On the other hand, Yadav has been performing consistently in the shortest format of the game. The talisman scored a fine knock of 111 runs off just 51 balls in the first T20I against New Zealand.

The 32-year-old also scored 239 runs in six matches in the T20 World Cup at a whirlwind strike rate of 189.68 and an average of 59.75.

“Yes, he got out in the same fashion in both ODIs as he was caught by the slip fielder. In T20 cricket, there is no slip, so you survive. But as his career expands, people are now talking how he may play Test matches, then he needs to improve on this aspect,” he told ESPN Cricinfo.

On the other hand, Ravi Shastri had also showered praise on Suryakumar Yadav and had compared him with former South African batter AB de Villiers.

“He is one of the best players in the world if not the best T20 player. He has got the all-round game and he is devastating. On his day, if he bats 30-40 balls, he’ll win you the match because he scores at that pace and he demoralises the opposition with the kind of shots he plays. He is much like AB de Villiers at his best. When AB played one of those special innings, it deflated the opposition and Surya can do just that,” Shastri told Prime Video after India’s second fixture against New Zealand.

SKY has done a magnificent job for the national team in the T20I format but he is yet to grab his chances in the ODI version. The Mumbai batter has been in the form of his life and he would want to carry the same form in the ODI format.

India will take on Bangladesh in the first ODI on 4th December.
