IND vs SL 2023: Could have gone deeper – Shubman Gill on his third ODI knock

Indian opener Shubman Gill feels he could have dug deeper in the third ODI against Sri Lanka. Gill scored a fine knock of 116 runs off 97 balls in the final match of the series but feels there was a good chance to get an even bigger score.

The right-hander had played an untroubled knock as he timed the ball to perfection against Sri Lankan bowlers. Gill was given the preference ahead of Ishan Kishan in the series and he was able to grab it as he scored a fine knock of 70 runs in the opening game at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

“It was disappointing when I got out in the first ODI. I was looking to go big in that match, but unfortunately, I couldn’t. In Kolkata also, we didn’t have that many runs to score. I was also disappointed after I got out in that game.

“So, I wanted to go big after I start. Even in this game, I felt that I left a bit of runs there and could have gone deeper,” Shubman was quoted as saying in a video uploaded on BCCI’s website while talking to Virat Kohli.

This was the second ODI century for Shubman Gill and he will look to continue the good show in the upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, Gill added 95 runs with Rohit Sharma and then added another fine alliance of 131 runs with Virat Kohli. Gill admitted Kohli’s positive approach helped him in the middle.

“When I was batting, you told me that it was my time to get a big score. After you came in, you changed the rhythm. I was keeping a lot of things in mind,” he added.

Gill has been able to grab his opportunities at the top of the order and he is going to play a crucial role in the upcoming matches.

The youngster will be in action in the forthcoming ODI series against New Zealand, with the first game to be played on Wednesday in Hyderabad.
