The All India National Selection Committee has announced the team’s ODI and T20I squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies.
Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who had impressed in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup and also while playing for Punjab Kings in the IPL, has earned his maiden call-up.
India’s limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma, who had missed the South African tour due to a hamstring injury, has returned back to the squad and he will lead the side. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who didn’t get a game in South Africa, has retained his spot while Venkatesh Iyer, who played the first two ODIs, has been dropped from the ODI squad.
Deepak Hooda also gets a place in the ODI squad whereas Kuldeep Yadav also returns to the 50-overs team. There is no place for Ravichandran Ashwin in the ODI squad as the T20I squad whereas Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Avesh Khan get a place in the ODI team along with Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.
India’s main fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested for the West Indies series.
Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who isn’t in the best of forms, is not included in the ODI squad but he makes the cut into the T20I team. Washington Sundar, who missed out in the South African ODIs due to Covid-19, returns to both squads. Harshal Patel, who made an impressive T20I debut against New Zealand, has been named in the T20I squad.
All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya haven’t been included as they continue to regain full match fitness. KL Rahul will be available from the second ODI onwards.
