Pakistan opening batter Sahibzada Farhan said the much-anticipated match against India is not a big deal, and they will adopt a different mindset while playing against the arch-rivals. Salman Agha’s team registered a 32-run win against the USA at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo on Tuesday, which was their second victory of the tournament.
With this win, Pakistan climbed to the top of Group A, and Farhan, who played a crucial knock of 73 runs against the Americans, said the team is confident after two wins in as many games.
On Monday night, Pakistan was given a green signal by their government to play against India on 15th February.
“See, when you win two matches and are at the top of the table, you feel confident. The upcoming match is not such a big deal, we’re not playing against them for the first time. We’ve played before and this time we’ll play with a different mindset. You’ve seen us in the shake-up. You must have seen our struggle in the middle. You must have seen that Shadaab is making run, Nawaz is scoring runs. So hopefully you will enjoy our game against them,” Farhan said after their win against the USA on Tuesday in Colombo.
India has a 7-1 record against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, and the Men in Blue won all three of their matches against their rivals in the Asia Cup 2025. The right-hander said they fought till the end in the continental tournament, and it was not a one-way contest.
“No, I think the way we played in the last Asia Cup, we didn’t play one-sided. We played and fought till the end . We didn’t play a one-sided match till then end and hopefully this time against we’ll play a wonderful game,” Farhan said.
Farhan said they want to treat the India match as normal, and he is confident after getting runs in the first two matches of the T20I showpiece.
“I think when you make runs you are confident. I am also very confident and the way the last two innings have gone, I’m very confident. It’s a normal match. We’ll play like a normal match. We won’t put it in our head that this is an India – Pakistan match, it is a normal match and we will play it like a normal match,” he said.
India will take on Namibia before facing Pakistan at Colombo on Sunday.
