India will host the first-ever ICC Women’s Champions Trophy from February 14 to 28, 2027, with six leading teams set to compete for the inaugural title.
All matches in the tournament will be staged at two venues — the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara.
The competition was initially scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka but has now been shifted to India. The change comes as Sri Lanka Cricket continues to implement reforms outlined during the ICC’s Annual Conference in July.
Bangladesh, India and South Africa were considered as potential replacement hosts. The ICC assessed the three candidates using its established host evaluation criteria before recommending India. The decision was subsequently ratified by the ICC Board on September 1.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the introduction of the tournament as an important development for the women’s game.

“With a marquee ICC women’s event now taking place every year, we have a significant opportunity to build greater momentum, provide more consistency and create a stronger rhythm for the women’s game, its players and its fans around the world.”
Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will participate in the inaugural edition, with all six sides looking to become the competition’s first champion.
Unlike the men’s Champions Trophy, the women’s tournament will be played in the T20 International format.
The six participating nations will compete against each other in a round-robin league. After the league stage, the top two teams in the standings will progress directly to the title clash.
The final is scheduled for February 28, bringing the two-week tournament to a close and determining the first winner of the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy.
