After the completion of the four-match Test series, India and Australia will take on each other in the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. With this being the World Cup year, Australia will want to maximize its opportunity of playing in Indian conditions.
Steve Smith will continue to lead Australia after it was confirmed that Pat Cummins will not return to India. Furthermore, Jhye Richardson has also been ruled out with an injury.
On the other hand, Hardik Pandya will lead in ODI for the first time in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who will miss the first game due to personal reasons. Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out with a back injury and thus Suryakumar Yadav could get his chances.
India had dominated against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the limited-overs formats before the Test series but Australia will definitely pose a difficult challenge to the hosts.
Australia played an ODI back in November 2022 and the visitors will look to hit the ground running in the 50-overs version.
Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Marsh will add strength to Australia’s squad and they are going to hold the key.
Match Prediction: India will start as favorites against Australia as they will be playing in their own conditions.
