India will take on New Zealand in the second ODI at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Khandheri, Rajkot on Wednesday. The hosts won the opening ODI at Vadodara by four wickets and would look to take an impregnable lead in the three-match series.
Meanwhile, even an inexperienced New Zealand team gave a run for their money to the home team. India lost three quick wickets while chasing 301 and the match, which looked done and dusted at one stage, suddenly looked to be going down to the wire.
However, KL Rahul kept his calm, whereas Harshit Rana also played a crucial knock of 29 runs to take their team over the line.
On the other hand, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the series with a side strain injury, and Ayush Badoni has been named as a replacement. It is unlikely that Badoni will make his ODI debut, whereas Nitish Kumar Reddy can get his opportunity in the final XI.
Reddy hasn’t received his chances, and he would look to grab it with both hands on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Kiwis were brilliant with their ground fielding but dropped two catches, one of Harshit Rana (by Daryl Mitchell) and the other of Washington Sundar (Adi Ashok), which cost them in the series opener.
