BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has revealed that India vs Pakistan was just another match for him during his playing days. The former Indian captain wants India to go all the way in the upcoming Asia Cup.
India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on 28th August. Meanwhile, India has an advantage in the head-to-head battle in Asia Cup against Pakistan. India has won eight matches while Pakistan has won five games whereas one game has ended in no result.
It is well known that India vs Pakistan is always hyped by the media due to the given history and the political tension between the two countries. However, both of these teams only take on each other in major ICC tournaments due to political issues.
Sourav Ganguly said while talking to India Today, “I am seeing it as the Asia Cup. I do not see any tournament as India vs Pakistan. When I used to be in my playing days, India vs Pakistan was just another match for me. I always looked to win the tournament.”
“India are a good team and they have done very well in recent times and hopefully their team will give a good performance in the Asia Cup as well.”
On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly will lead India Maharajas in the legends match against Eoin Morgan-led World Giants XI on September 16 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Ganguly added he wish he could play the cover drive the way he used to during his playing career.
“I don’t know what will happen. I wish I can play cover drive like before. I wish I could make a connect bat and ball well. I will play just one game. [I] will enjoy the game. It’s a game for a good occasion and I am happy to participate in it.”
Meanwhile, the Indian team will look to be at their best in the Asia Cup and Rohit Sharma will look to lead from the front to defend the title.
