IPL 2022: Always bowled well with the new ball, swung it both ways – Vaibhav Arora

On many occasions in the IPL, CSK gun fast bowler Deepak Chahar has rocked the opposition’s top-order with his swing.

With Chahar missing the formative stages of ongoing IPL due to hamstring injury, defending champions’ powerplay bowling has looked a bit toothless.

However, CSK were given a dose of their own medicine when Punjab King’s debutant Vaibhav Arora breathed down the neck of their top order with his swing. Arora majorly got the ball to move back into the right-handers and he was able to hit the right areas to trouble them.

Arora got rid of veteran batter Robin Uthappa as the right-hander got a top-edge. Subsequently, the youngster accounted for Moeen Ali, who played away from his body and chopped the ball back onto his stumps.

Arora stated that he has come up with such performances in the domestic circuit and he was confident of executing his skills in his debut IPL match.

“Yeah there was the pressure of it being a debut match for me but I had belief in myself, that I’ve done this before in the domestic circuit and practice matches. Wherever we’ve played – I’ve always bowled well with the new ball, swung it both ways. So there was confidence. I reaped the result of that confidence,” Arora said in the post-match press conference.

The swing fast bowler returned with impressive figures of 4-0-21-2 and he was given four overs on the trot by PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal as he was getting swing with the new ball.

“Since the ball was swinging, Mayank [Agarwal] told me to go for my fourth [over] straight away since I’d already picked two wickets in my three overs. We had Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada to bowl at the death so the plan was to try for another wicket in my fourth over,” Arora revealed.

Meanwhile, it was noticed that the dew was less as the ground staff had sprayed Aspa 80 – an anti-dew agent. Arora also felt the dew was less as compared to earlier matches.

“I felt the dew was a little less today compared to the previous games. Dew was there but not so much that the ball was getting too wet. I didn’t bowl at the death but the new ball didn’t get too wet today.”

PBKS will next face Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Friday.
