Mumbai Indians gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah felt good to contribute to the team but he feels the important thing is for the side to win.
Bumrah returned with his best IPL figures as he took 5-10 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr. DY Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday.
Bumrah dismissed Nitish Rana, Sheldon Jackson, Pat Cummins, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine in his fine spell. The ace paceman bowled at the top of his game and breathed down the neck of the opposition batters with his accuracy.
In fact, Bumrah had not done well in the first 10 matches as he could only take a total of five wickets. However, he was at his best against KKR as he was right on the money.
But his heroics went in vain as Mumbai Indians could not come up with a good batting show and were bundled out for only 113 runs to lose by 52 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine spell and he said in the post-match presentation, “Always a good feeling to contribute but the important thing is for the team to win. We had our chance to do that but couldn’t get it done. That’s the way it is. I don’t keep track of figures or goals, my aim is to stick to the process. Sometimes you bowl well but don’t get wickets. Can’t get desperate. Just want to contribute in whatever way I can. Well, it’s about rectifying our mistakes and doing better next season.”
On the other hand, Venkatesh Iyer was drafted back into the playing XI by KKR and the left-hander scored a good knock of 43 runs off just 24 balls. Iyer added it was to contribute to the team’s win as he provided a good start to his team.
He said after the game, “It was good, coming back (after getting dropped) and opening the innings. Feels good, when the team wins you naturally feel happy. It’s important to contribute, with the bat, or ball, or in the field. Fielding is very important for me and so is bowling. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a lot of overs, but whatever overs I get, I ensure I do the job that the captain wants me to do. It’s my job to go out there and give my team a good start. My intent is always positive and aggressive, sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn’t. With the middle order, we have it’s important to have a good start so that they (other batters) can come in and contribute.”
KKR will next face SRH at the MCA, Pune on Saturday.
