IPL 2022: I think slight desperation is required for each one of us – Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has urged his teammates to show slight desperation in their efforts in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

The five-time champions have got off to a horrid start as they have lost all three matches of the season and they need to bounce back stronger.

MI’s bowling has let the team down whereas Rohit Sharma has also failed to deliver at the top of the order. The team lost their third match of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets after Pat Cummins scored the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history.

There is no doubt that Mumbai Indians need to come up with a more collective effort to get their maiden win of the season, which will give them a lot of confidence. Rohit feels it is not right to start the blaming game and they all need to take responsibility as individuals.

Rohit Sharma said on MI’s YouTube Channel, “We seriously cannot be blaming individuals here. It’s all of us. We win together, and we lose together. That is as simple as that for me. I think slight desperation is required for each one of us. That desperation is very very important when we play, especially in this tournament.”

“Because oppositions are different and they come up with different plans all the time, we just need to stay on top of them. The only way we can do that is with slight hunger and that desperation on the field with the bat and the ball. We are doing some good things in all the three games we have played so far. We need to seize on the little opportunities during the game and get momentum towards us.”

Rohit Sharma, who has all the experience of bailing his team out of the troubled waters, added that there is no need to hit the panic buttons as this is only the beginning of a long tournament.

“We don’t need to panic. There’s no point we keep our heads down at this point because it is still early days. We have shown some character. Just that collectively, all eleven of us inside need to come together. Let’s all keep our heads up. We don’t need to worry about things.”

“We can talk about so much stuff off the field, but I think it’s in there what we want to achieve as a group. Again this is not about bowling or batting group, this is all of us here. We need to come together, not one or two individuals. Everyone needs to come together. That is what I feel.”

MI has been in a similar situation on many occasions and Rohit Sharma knows how to get the best out of his team. Mumbai Indians will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Saturday.
