IPL 2022: I think we were 10-15 runs short – Rishabh Pant

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant admitted that they were 10-15 runs short against Lucknow Super Giants after they posted 149 runs at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Thursday.

KL Rahul had won the toss and decided to bowl first as LSG won by six wickets in a thrilling low-scoring match.

Prithvi Shaw got back into form as he scored a fine knock of 61 runs off just 34 balls. The talented batter scored nine fours and two sixes in his blistering knock as he scored his runs at an impressive strike rate of 179.41.

However, David Warner, who was playing his first match of the season, struggled to get going at the other end. The southpaw could only manage four runs off 12 balls he faced before he was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi. Rovman Powell, who was promoted to number three in the batting order, also could not get going as he scored only three runs off 10 balls.

It wasn’t the easiest of pitches for the batters as the ball was gripping for the spinners. Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten knock of 39 off 36 balls, which is well below his own standards whereas Sarfaraz Khan added 36 off 28 balls.

Ergo, Delhi Capitals failed to get going in their batting innings as they could not get the momentum on their side. Furthermore, Ravi Bishnoi bowled another fine spell as the leg-spinner scalped two wickets and conceded 22 runs in his quota of four overs.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant gave credit to his spinners, who bowled well in the middle overs to take the game into the last over.

Rishabh Pant said in the post-match presentation, “When the dew is like that you can’t be complaining, as a batting unit we were 10-15 short, at the end Avesh and Holder pulled it back, credit to them. We were talking about giving 100% till the last ball of the 40th over, no matter what happens [on his chat to the team before the start of the 2nd innings]. The powerplay was fine, we didn’t get any wicket, our spin attack did well in the middle overs but in the end we were 10-15 short.”

Delhi Capitals have now lost two out of their three matches and they will look to bounce back stronger in the upcoming matches. DC will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
