IPL 2022: Loved his temperament – Ravi Shastri hails young Ayush Badoni

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has hailed Ayush Badoni for his fine show in IPL 2022 thus far. Badoni has hogged the limelight after he made a fifty on his IPL debut against Gujarat Titans.

In fact, in all the three matches, which he has played thus far, Badoni has entered the crease at a precarious situation but he has done well even under pressure.

Badoni had scored 54 runs off just 41 balls against Gujarat Titans when LSG had lost three early wickets at the top of the order. Subsequently, he played a 9-ball cameo of 19 runs against defending champions Chennai Super Kings to help his team chase down 211 runs. Furthermore, he scored 19 runs off just 12 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous match for LSG.

Thus, Badoni has shown that he can hit the ground running and he can also play according to the match situation for his team. Thus, Shastri lauded Badoni’s temperament as he has shown the skills to go a long way in his career.

“He has looked very impressive. I have loved his temperament and he is not overawed by any names and he is not afraid to pull out those big shots. He seems to have time. He is very calculated; he knows which areas he has to hit. Gets into position early, the movement is pretty swift and he does it with ease,” Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo’s ‘T20 Time Out’.

Meanwhile, there is no doubt that the game has revolutionized since the inception of the T20 Cricket. The young players are brave enough to play risky shots and their execution has been superb.

“They start early. My generation would start focusing on Test match cricket. In today’s generation, you gotta take all three formats into play. You start playing your shots very very early in your career. In our day, if you try and play the reverse sweep or the sweep or the scoop or the lap shot, your coaches would have gone berserk. Today, when you see it happening on television, you want to try and do it,” said Shastri.

“It is good to see and the guys are adapting well. Different eras, different formats in the game, and the styles are different. They come prepared,” he added.

Lucknow Super Giants have won two out of their three matches and Badoni has been a find for them so far. LSG will next take on Delhi Capitals on Thursday at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
