IPL 2022: You need to keep the perspective right – Virat Kohli after getting back amongst the runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore talisman Virat Kohli hasn’t had the best of Tata IPL 2022.

Kohli failed to match the lofty standards he sets for himself however he finally found his mojo in the last league stage match against table-toppers Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.

Kohli did ride his luck in the initial stage of his innings, which he badly needed. The right-hander played with an aggressive attitude and looked like the old Kohli, who loves to take on the opposition bowlers. Kohli was motivated to do well and he was seen at his best throughout his match-winning knock.

Kohli went on to score a fine knock of 73 runs from 54 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes to get RCB close to the target of 169 runs. In fact, Kohli has hardly seen lows in his career and he feels it is imperative to have the right perspective when he isn’t doing well. The former RCB captain added it is important to follow the right process in order to get the desired results.

Kohli believes he was letting the team down as he was not having an impact on the game in the early matches. However, he was finally able to make a winning contribution as he played a fine knock at the top of the order.

Virat Kohli was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine knock. Kohli said in the post-match presentation, “I can keep going. It was an important game. I was disappointed that I haven’t done much for my team and that is what bothers me, not the stats. Today was a game where I was able to create an impact for the team. Puts us in a good position. There are expectations because of the performances that you have put in. You need to keep the perspective right.

You can forget the process in order to live up to the expectations. I have worked really hard. I batted 90 minutes in the nets yesterday. I came in very free and relaxed. It is in that spur of the moment why is it happening to me. It goes back to 2018 in England when I was dropped on 21 and the juggernaut could have started again like it did on the 2014 tour. I won’t be standing here being ungrateful for all that I have achieved. With the very first shot of Shami, I felt I could hit length balls over the fielder’s head. I knew that tonight was the night when I could kick on. It has been wonderful that I have got so much support in this edition. I am forever grateful to all the love that I have never seen before.”

Kohli will look to continue the good show if RCB makes it to the last four. RCB will now hope Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals on Saturday so that they can qualify for the playoff stages.

MI will face DC at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday.
