Kolkata Knight Riders gun fast bowler Lockie Ferguson had a perfect maiden match of the season for the franchise. Ferguson, who was warming the benches thus far, showed what he can bring to the table for KKR. The Kiwis ace paceman has the pace under his belt and he was able to breathe down the neck of the SRH batsmen with his accurate bowling at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
The express fast bowler was able to nail the yorkers to perfection and did a fine job for the team. Ferguson scalped the crucial wicket of Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey to put KKR on top. The right-arm fast bowler scalped three wickets and conceded only 15 runs in his quota of four overs.
However, despite Ferguson’s heroics with the ball, SRH was able to take the game into the Super Over after an unbeaten knock of 47 runs from David Warner. Warner came out to bat with Jonny Bairstow in the Super Over but the SRH captain was clean bowled by Ferguson on the first ball.
Ferguson stated that dismissing David Warner in the Super Over was very satisfying. Not only Ferguson got the big fish, David Warner, but also he completely flummoxed rookie Abdul Samad with a slower yorker. The New Zealander conceded only two runs in the three balls he bowled in the Super Over and thus he was awarded the Player of the match.
Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan had no issues in scoring three runs as they won their fifth match of the ongoing season.
Lockie Ferguson said in the post-match ceremony for his match winning bowling spell, “The team has been going good. Pleasure to get an opportunity and do well. We’ve obviously had a big sit with no cricket which is interesting back home. Had a couple of warm-ups and a lot of training sessions. Always getting David Warner, especially at the start of the Super Over was satisfying. It’s great having Morgs, we’ve both been part of this. Was good to use his experience”.
KKR will need to keep coming up with more consistent performances and Ferguson would aim to continue the good show. The Eoin Morgan-led side is in fourth place in the points table.
KKR will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on 21st October.
