Kolkata Knight Riders bowling coach Kyle Mills was all praise for the youngsters of the team after a solid performance against Rajasthan Royals at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
KKR are known to back the youngsters in their team and they have thrown opportunities to players like Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins was the chief destroyer of Rajasthan Royals’ batting unit and the youngsters also did a fine job. Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Varun Chakravarthy collectively bowled 12 overs and scalped five wickets for 59 runs. Cummins scalped four wickets and thus KKR restricted RR to 131 runs and won the match by a gargantuan margin of 60 runs to boost their Net Run rate.
On the other hand, KKR youngsters have impressed with their skills. The young players have shown the skills to go a long way in their career and they have been given the confidence by the team management.
“Resilient is the word which we can use across all facets of life. In cricket, the thing gets really tough and few guys really stood up today, the young lads Nagarkoti, Varun, Shivam Mavi playing some under the same condition, said Mills in a video on the KKR website”.
“You guys stepped up when pressure was on and if cricket is life, you need to hold onto that feeling and those emotions and know the fact that you get through tough situations where you need to be resilient to get through”, he added.
Meanwhile, before the start of the match against RR, KKR were languishing at the bottom of the points table. However, the win against RR assured that the Eoin Morgan-led team moved to fourth place in the points table. KKR now have 14 points under their belt and they will want Mumbai Indians to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad so that they can qualify for the playoff stages.
On the other hand, Varun Chakravarthy was the most impressive KKR bowler as the mystery spinner scalped 17 wickets in 13 matches. Furthermore, Shivam Mavi snared nine wickets in eight matches whereas Kamlesh Nagarkoti took five wickets in 10 matches.
