IPL 2021: It was a disappointing moment for me – Prithvi Shaw on getting dropped in Australia

India’s talented batsman Prithvi Shaw was under the scanner for his poor show in Australia. Shaw was found wanting on tour Down Under as he struggled in the first Test match against the hosts. There was no foot movement from Shaw and he was bowled in both the innings of the opening Test.

As expected, he was dropped from the final XI as Shubman Gill received his chance. However, Shaw has been able to turn the tables in the last couple of months. Shaw revealed that he worked hard with coach Pravin Amre before the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the results were fruitful for him.

Shaw ended up scoring 827 runs in the eight matches of the Vijay Hazare trophy, including four hundred, out of which three were the big ones. The right-hander scored his runs at an impeccable average of 165.40 and a blistering strike rate of 138.29.

Furthermore, Shaw also broke Mayank Agarwal’s record of scoring most runs in the Vijay Hazare trophy as the latter had scored 723 runs in the 2018 edition.

The right-hander from Mumbai was able to continue the good show in the first match of IPL 2021 for DC. Shaw was at his absolute best in Delhi Capitals’ opening match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday.

The right-hander was able to get off the blocks and scored 72 runs from 38 balls to help his team chase down 189 runs with relative ease. Shaw tinkered his batting technique as his bat was close to the body and he was able to reap the rewards.

Prithvi Shaw said in the post-match presentation, “Feeling good. Everyone contributed and it was a good start (to the season). The wicket was good to bat on in the second innings and we executed quite well. From Australia when I was dropped I was working from there itself, coming back and across early, so I practiced before going to Vijay Hazare with Pravin Amre and worked on that. I had a good plan before going into that tournament, so it is working quite well. I don’t want to think about it (being dropped from the Indian side) because it was a disappointing moment for me but I have to move on and if something is wrong with my batting or technique, I have to improve and I am working hard on myself”.

DC will play their next match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 15th April.
