Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Deepak Chahar has revealed that his focus has been to bowl straight at stumps after he scalped another four wicket haul.
Chahar has been getting the ball to swing and broke the backbone of KKR’s top-order at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Wednesday.
Chahar has consistently got the ball to swing both ways and he has been breathing down the neck of the opposition batsmen. Furthermore, the right-arm fast bowler is accurate with his line and length, which is helping him keep the pressure.
Chahar dismissed Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, Sunil Narine and Eoin Morgan and put KKR right on the backfoot. After 5.2 overs, KKR were struggling at 31-5 and Chahar was the chief destroyer.
Chahar was bowled out by MS Dhoni in the eight over and he returned with impressive figures of 4-29.
Deepak Chahar said in the post-match presentation, “I don’t know what I am doing right. I’m just trying to bowl straight balls & it is swinging. It was a good wicket to bowl on, the ball was swinging and seaming.”
“I didn’t pick a lot of wickets last year and realised later that when I’m bowling the first over, I have the responsibility. If I get 1 or 2 wickets in the powerplay, the tone is set.
Chahar expressed his delight after his team was able to get over the line by 18 runs against KKR. Chennai was in a spot of bother when Pat Cummins was going all guns blazing.
“The dew came in, the ball was coming on nicely, some good batting by Russell and we also bowled some bad balls, so it was a combination of everything. Even the cutters Sam was bowling were coming onto the bat.” Chahar said.
“I was thinking we should not lose this match, they were batting really well and at one point needed 40 off 20 balls which is very gettable on this ground. It is always good to win matches like this in the group stage as you learn a lot of things.” Chahar concluded.
Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar had scalped four wickets and had conceded only 13 runs in his quota of four overs against Punjab Kings. Chahar is currently the second highest wicket-taker in IPL 2021 as he has snared eight wickets in four matches.
CSK will next play RCB at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 25th April.
