Mumbai Indians’ gun fast bowler Trent Boult has stated that they would like to have more runs on the board.
MI is yet to breach the 160-run mark in the ongoing IPL 2021 in the four matches they have played. In fact, the two matches, which they have won are because of their impressive bowling line-up.
Mumbai’s middle-order has failed to get going and they haven’t been able to consistently come up with goods. MI was on the backfoot against SRH and KKR but the trio of Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult took them to come-from-behind win.
Rohit Sharma has given a good start to his team in the last couple of matches but the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock and Hardik Pandya have failed to deliver the goods.
Mumbai has a potent team and they have not relied on a particular batsman to do the bulk of the scoring but their batting hasn’t yet clicked in this season. The Mumbai batsmen, who are used to playing at the Wankhede, haven’t been able to adjust their game to a slow wicket of Chepauk Stadium.
MI could only manage 137 runs against Delhi Capitals in their previous match despite scoring 55-1 in the powerplay overs.
“I am sure the middle-order is probably not too pleased with how things are going so far but I know the guys are hungry and desperate to put in the performance in our last game here in Chennai tomorrow,” Boult said ahead of the team”s game against Punjab Kings.
“We have not had an ideal start, obviously like to have a few more runs on the board. But one of the strengths of this side is fighting till the end and the bowlers have managed to do that. Hopefully, we put runs on the board,” added the New Zealand pace ace.
Boult believes the MI batsmen should give themselves a couple of balls before they go for the big shots as the wicket in Chennai is hard.
“I think it is very hard for me to talk from a batting point of view. They (Hardik and Pollard) are key ingredients to our team, things have not gone to plan as yet. Wickets are hard here.
“They must be thinking about giving themselves some extra balls. Yeah, hopefully, we can take advantage of the good starts we are getting in the power play,” Boult said.
MI will next play against Punjab Kings on 23rd April at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
