Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra showered praise on Arshdeep Singh for his death bowling. Chopra feels Arshdeep Singh is doing the best death bowling at the moment as he has been right on the money. Singh was brilliant at the far end of the innings against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday to help his team win by 11 runs.
The left-arm pacer used the crease to great effect and he was able to nail his yorkers. 47 runs were needed in the last four overs and Arshdeep got his team back in the contest as he conceded only six runs in the 17th over.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old youngster gave away only eight runs in the penultimate over and thus left 27 runs for Rishi Dhawan to defend in the final over. Singh returned with impressive figures of 1-23 in his quota of four overs and bowled accurately at the death.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “You have to focus on Arshdeep’s bowling as much as MS Dhoni’s batting, how well he is bowling. Whether Hardik Pandya is standing there or MS Dhoni, he doesn’t get scared against anyone. He doesn’t go away from his game plans at all. In my opinion, he has been absolutely stellar.”
“You have Lockie Ferguson, Shami, Bumrah, Kagiso Rabada – you get all of them together, Arshdeep Singh is doing the best death bowling at the moment. He keeps bowling the yorkers one after the other at one place, he uses that angle.”
On the other hand, Kagiso Rabada also bowled a crucial 18th over, in which he conceded only six runs and also accounted for Ambati Rayudu, who was threatening to take the game away from PBKS. Former KKR batter added that Rabada’s over was also very important.
“He (Arshdeep) bowled a very good over and left a lot of runs for the last over – 27 runs. Rabada’s over was also important, Mayank’s captaincy was also very good, he took the game deep.”
“27 runs in the last over had never been scored. The most in IPL history was 24, that too was scored by Dhoni against Axar Patel and perhaps that’s why Rahul Chahar had an over left but the captain didn’t go towards him.”
The Mayank Agarwal-led team will next face Lucknow Super Giants at the MCA, Pune on Friday.
