Delhi Capitals hart-hitter Rovman Powell has revealed his chat with David Warner before the 20th over of the innings while playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday. Powell asked David Warner if he wanted to be on strike as the latter was near his hundred.
Warner was unbeaten on 92 before the final over and needed two boundaries to get to the personal milestone. However, the Australian declined Powell’s offer and told him to get as many runs as possible in the last over against Umran Malik.
The West Indian did exactly that as he smashed the young fast bowler for 19 runs in the 20th over to help his team post a potent score of 207 runs on the board. Powell ended up scoring 67 runs off just 35 balls and it was his maiden IPL fifty. DC went on win by 21 runs and it was a crucial victory for them.
Powell said while talking to Star Sports, “I asked him if he wanted a single to get a hundred but he told me this isn’t how we play cricket and I should try to smack it as far as I can and as hard as I can and I did it.”
On the other hand, as Rovman Powell had been in decent form, he was promoted up in the batting order. The West Indian joined forces with David Warner after the dismissal of captain Rishabh Pant. Powell revealed Pant asked him where he wanted to bat in the batting order.
“I had a conversation with Pant a few days back in the hotel room, he asked me where I wanted to bat, I just asked him to have trust in me. wanted to bat at number 5 since over the last year I’ve been batting there. I have improved my game against the spinners as well as the pacers, want to give myself a chance, play some 10-15 balls and then play the shots.”
Powell has definitely impressed with his pyrotechnics and there is no doubt that he can hit the ball a long way. The right-hander will look to continue the good show for Delhi Capitals as he has done a fine job.
Delhi Capitals will next face Chennai Super Kings at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Sunday.
